“Members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra have organized a concert ‘in response to [Sunday’s] tragedy in Orlando,’ writes Tim Smith in Monday’s (6/13) Baltimore Sun. “The performance of mostly Baroque music will be at 5:30 Monday evening at City Cafe, 1001 Cathedral St.” in Baltimore’s Mount Vernon neighborhood. Oboist Michael Lisicky “invited people ‘to come, listen and reflect…. Tragic events can leave us speechless, and sometimes the best way we can respond, as we’ve learned, is to speak through our music.’ ” Forty-nine people were killed early Sunday in a mass shooting at the nightclub Pulse in Orlando, Florida. The previous night, singer Christina Grimmie was shot and later died in a separate incident at The Plaza performance venue, also in Orlando. A brief video excerpt of the Baltimore musicians’ performance can be seen here.
