“Tony Award winning Broadway star Leslie Odom, Jr. will be returning to our area on July 4th to perform with the Philly POPS,” writes Renee Grant on Tuesday (6/28) at radio station WOGL (Philadelphia). “This weekend, the POPS will play at Independence Hall in their annual POPS on Independence show on July 3rd, and twice on July 4th on Ben Franklin Parkway.… The three evening concerts feature the 65-piece POPS orchestra, led by Music Director Michael Krajewski, guest vocalists Allison Blackwell and Justin Hopkins, plus the Voices of the POPS ensemble…. ‘The POPS will be everywhere in Philadelphia … on Independence Day weekend,’ said Frank Giordano, President and CEO, Philly POPS…. Odom was born in New York, but grew up in Philadelphia…. Odom played the part of Aaron Burr in the wildly popular Broadway show Hamilton, which recently picked up 11 Tony statues including the one that Odom took home. He also won a Grammy for the cast album. Odom will sing with the POPS twice on July 4—‘America the Beautiful’ in the morning and ‘Unforgettable’ in the evening.” A previously announced July 2 concert in Wildwood was cancelled on June 29 by the presenter.
