InterSchool Orchestras of New York, serving nearly 350 musicians in New York City schools with seven orchestras and a band, has announced the appointment of KAREN GEER as executive director. For five years she was executive director of the Brooklyn (N.Y.) Conservatory of Music. Geer had earlier served as director of programs, and subsequently as interim executive director, of the violin-training program Opus 118 Harlem School of Music. Before joining Opus 118 Geer was a lawyer at Harris Beach LLP, and she began her career in music education, teaching at Manhattan’s Ethical Culture School. Geer holds a law degree from Fordham University; an LLM in environmental law from Pace University; a master’s degree in tuba performance from Manhattan School of Music; and a bachelor’s degree in music education from Ohio’s Kent State University.
