“Members of the York Symphony Orchestra are traveling across China on a 14-city performing tour this month,” writes Abbey Zelko on Tuesday (7/5) at flipsidepa.com (south central Pennsylvania). “A plush toy version of the York Revolution’s mascot, DownTown, has been accompanying the group on their trip since June 17.” The York Revolution is a professional baseball team based in York, PA. “YSO is documenting all the fun by taking photos of the toy at famous historical sites across the country. So far, DownTown has been to the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, the Henan Performing Arts Center in Zhengzhou and the Great Wall of China…. The tour will wrap up on Sunday, July 10 in Yichun. YSO Music Director Lawrence Golan and the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra, where Golan also serves as music director, were invited on the one-month tour by Beijing Poly Theatres.… Golan then hand-selected YSO flautist and general manager Michael Reichman and violist Jody Greve to join them on the tour.” Said Greve, “This entire adventure is a learning experience, and we’re looking forward to bringing that experience back to Central Pennsylvania.” Included is a photo gallery from the trip.
