The Billings Symphony Orchestra will give its first performance in Sidney, Montana on July 8, when it gives a free concert at the Sunrise Festival of the Arts, an annual art and craft festival featuring artisans from the Montana/Dakota region. The orchestra’s run-out concerts previously have taken place in communities near Billings such as Red Lodge, Hardin, Laurel, and Columbus; Sidney is located 270 miles to the northeast of Billings. “This is a huge step for the Billings Symphony,” said Executive Director Darren Rich. “Traveling with a full orchestra is a complex operation that is more typical among larger orchestras who go on tour.” The Sidney concert developed out of the Billings Symphony Orchestra & Chorale’s 2015-19 strategic plan, which includes developing broader audiences, building the visibility of the orchestra, and expanding its base of support. The Sidney concert includes a conducting contest for children and other family activities.
