The Cape Symphony and Conservatory, headquartered in Hyannis, Mass., on Cape Cod, has announced the appointment of ROBERT J. BARKER as chair of its Board of Trustees for the 2016-17 season. Barker served as vice chair from 2014 to 2016, and he chaired the search committee that selected Roland Valliere as the orchestra’s president and CEO in 2015. Barker spent 39 years at the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Conn., as a history teacher, dean, and development officer. He was also the founding dean of Hotchkiss Summer Portals, a summer program pairing instrumental and vocal chamber music with environmental science. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in teaching, and holds a master’s degree in liberal studies from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn.
