Thirty-one participants from across the country and beyond are currently experiencing the League of American Orchestras’ Essentials of Orchestra Management program in Los Angeles. The program runs from July 12 to 21 at the University of Southern California. Presented in association with the University of Southern California Arts Leadership Program and hosted by USC Thornton School of Music, Essentials offers early-career professionals a 360-degree immersion into the orchestra field, innovative leaders as faculty, and network-building opportunities. The intensive curriculum delves into the fundamentals of orchestra management as well as the evolving work of orchestras, covering topics including mission, programming, community engagement, leadership, new audiences, fiscal health, organizational culture, governance, and technology. Since its inception in 2000, over 400 emerging leaders have participated in Essentials, including many who now hold key leadership positions in orchestras.
