RUNE BERGMANN has been named music director of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra in Alberta, Canada. The appointment takes effect in the 2017-18 season, and he will serve as music director designate for 2016-17. Since 2010 Bergmann has been artistic director of the Fjord Cadenza Festival in his native Norway, and he has served as principal guest conductor of Lithuania’s Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra since 2013. Winner of the 2010 Kjell Holm Foundation Culture Prize, and second-prize winner in the 2002 Nordic Conducting Competition, Bergmann studied conducing at Sweden’s Royal College and Music and at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinski, Finland. He also plays trumpet, piano, violin, and viola.
