“On Thursday, the Cleveland Orchestra announced the appointment of Abby Mitchell as chief development officer, the post last held by Jon Limbacher, who left last fall for the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra,” reports Zachary Lewis in Thursday’s (7/14) Plain Dealer (Cleveland). “Mitchell currently serves as executive director of medical development at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She also has held positions at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and the Cleveland Clinic. … in a written statement, the new appointee summarized her musical interests and objectives at Severance Hall. Having developed a love of music at a young age, ‘I personally understand the value of music to connect audiences and friends and family,’ Mitchell wrote. ‘I can’t think of a more meaningful way to help future generations than by working for this world-renowned orchestra.’ … Executive director André Gremillet described Mitchell’s record as a fundraiser and executive leader as ‘highly successful,’ her knowledge of local philanthropy as ‘extensive.’ Dennis LaBarre … president of the Musical Arts Association, the orchestra’s governing body, said Mitchell is ‘uniquely prepared to help build on this community’s historic spirit of generosity.’ … Her duties at the Cleveland Orchestra commence Monday, July 18.”
