Three world premieres are planned during Astral’s 2016-17 season of concerts held in downtown Philadelphia venues. Works to be performed feature artists on Astral’s roster of musicians and include suspension/bridge by Jason Eckardt, performed on guitarist Jordan Dodson’s October 16 recital; a world premiere by Paul Wiancko on a December 11 recital by cellist Gabriel Cabezas; and a world premiere by Joel Puckett on pianist Sejoon Park’s March 5 recital. All three recitals take place at Benjamin Franklin Hall at the American Philosophical Society and are made possible by Astral’s Micro-Commissioning Program, which encourages the development of new music by providing Astral artists with funds to commission short works for their instrument or voice. The music commissioned through this program receive their world premieres on the Astral In Concert series. Astral is a nonprofit mentoring program that specializes in developing the early careers of classical musicians.
