“In a ‘what took them so long’ move that makes complete sense, and may help keep Manhattan residents safe from the crush of Times Square tourists, Lincoln Center will open up a branch of the TKTS booth in its David Rubenstein Atrium” on August 2, writes Susan Elliott in Thursday’s (7/28) MusicalAmerica.com (subscription required). “The plan at present is for a three-month ‘pop-up’ of the service. The Atrium … already sells discount tickets to Lincoln Center events, so it seems like a match made in cheap-seat heaven. The Times Square TKTS booth … offers discount same-day tickets to Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. … There are now three such ‘booths’ … one at South Street Seaport and another in Downtown Brooklyn, with Theatre Development Fund [which operates the booths] boasting the sale of 63.3 million tickets since TKTS launched, representing a whopping $2.3 billion in revenue. The Rubenstein Atrium, opened in 2009, can’t quite boast those numbers, but it does provide a public space with free performances and free with WiFi. TKTS at Lincoln Center will be open Tuesdays–Saturdays from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm, offering discount tickets for as low as 50 percent off.”
