For the third consecutive year, Music Director Mei-Ann Chen will lead the Chicago Sinfonietta in a free concert at Cantigny Park in Wheaton, Illinois, 30 miles west of Chicago. The August 4 concert will feature Charles Ives’s Variations on America; Copland’s Shaker Variations and Lincoln Portrait; Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances; and Tchaikovsky’s Overture to 1812. Also appearing will be the Mosaic Choir from Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora, Illinois, performing the South African song “Vela, Vela” and the Zulu folk song “Lindonga za Jeriko.” The concert takes place at the park’s First Division Museum, dedicated to the history of the 1st Infantry Division of the U.S. Army.
