“The 28th annual U.S. Bank Concert on the Lawn brought its Kentucky-themed event to life Saturday night by fusing together the classical and bluegrass music genres,” writes Don Wilkins in Sunday’s (8/7) Messenger-Inquirer (Owensboro, Kentucky; subscription required). “For International Bluegrass Music Museum Executive Director Chris Joslin, it was a first in both playing his banjo with a full orchestra and attending the outside free concert held on the front lawn of Kentucky Wesleyan College…. Joslin and fellow bluegrass musicians Randy Lanham on mandolin, Annabelle Watts on fiddle and Tom Ewing on acoustic guitar joined the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra for tunes such as ‘Kentucky Waltz,’ ‘I’m Going Back to Old Kentucky’ and ‘Blue Moon of Kentucky.’ … Concert on the Lawn has traditionally been used to ‘kick off’ the OSO’s new season.
