The instrumentalists, all full-scholarship students at Music Academy of the West this summer, are Kevin Chen, violin; Minji Choi, cello; Michael Daley, percussion; Kaelan Decman, double bass; Ao Peng, viola; Emily Switzer, violin; Alexander Volkov, violin; Jack Walters, clarinet; Justin Woo, violin; and Hyeree Yu, viola. Also joining the program in January will be Rainer Saville, trumpet, who was selected as a Global Academy Fellow for 2016 but deferred his participation to 2017. The follows will travel to New York for a ten-day program that includes training with the Philharmonic and immersion in all aspects of a professional orchestra musician’s life, from auditions to performance. Under Music Director Alan Gilbert they will play alongside the Philharmonic musicians in Brahms’s Symphony No. 3 at the orchestra’s subscription concerts January 11-14.
