“On Sept. 12, the Toledo Symphony Youth Orchestras will begin rehearsals for its 66th season,” writes Wayne Anthony in Thursday’s (8/18) Toledo Blade (Ohio). “After registration and auditions, which were held in April and May, a record 225 young musicians were accepted into the program and placed into three ensembles … concert, symphonic, and philharmonic … with the most advanced players in the philharmonic. The 66-member concert orchestra will be strings only. The 97-member symphony orchestra will have a full palette of winds, strings, and percussion. J. Patrick Barrett, orchestral director at Perrysburg Junior High School, will conduct both ensembles. The 64-member philharmonic orchestra is a full orchestral ensemble under the direction of Wasim Hawary, orchestra director at Maumee City Schools and artistic director of the Toledo Symphony Youth Orchestra…. Students work not only with youth orchestra staff, but also in sectionals with members of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra. Four concerts comprise the season [including] a side-by-side venture with the Toledo Symphony.”
