The deadline is September 30 for orchestras to submit letters of intent for composer-orchestra residencies through Music Alive, a joint program of New Music USA and the League of American Orchestras. The three-year residencies begin during the 2016-17 season and continue through the 2018-19 season. More than $1 million will be awarded to support and develop five residency pairings, each between an orchestra and a composer. In this new iteration of Music Alive, the program prioritizes collaborative work and immersive experiences for composers, orchestras’ musicians and artistic leadership, and community members. The program seeks to harness the desire and potential in the field for in-depth, multifaceted relationships between composers, orchestras, and communities through transformative residencies. Programs and activities will be developed through a cohort-based planning process with a centrally embedded and engaged composer-in-residence. Materials must be received by 5 p.m. (EDT) on September 30, 2016. For instructions and guidelines, click here.
