The Oregon Symphony will kick off its 120th season on September 1 with an 8pm concert at Tom McCall Waterfront Park led by Music Director Carlos Kalmar and Associate Conductor Norman Huynh. The concert will also be broadcast on radio station All Classical Portland KQAC and will feature members of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony, Portland Youth Philharmonic, Portland Opera, Oregon Ballet Theatre, and Alpha Battery 218th Field Artillery. The concert is the culminating event in a daylong music festival at the park featuring performances by area arts groups, including the Asian American drumming ensemble Portland Taiko, Irish fiddlers Kevin Burke/Greg Ewer, Third Angle New Music, indie pop trio The Cabin Project, and FearNoMusic, a new-music group headed by violist/composer Kenji Bunch and pianist/pedagogue Monica Ohuchi.
