The Virginia Symphony’s “Symphony Under the Stars” annual series of free outdoor concerts will begin on August 31 with Resident Conductor Benjamin Rous leading a program at Paradise Ocean Club at Fort Monroe, the first of five concerts over Labor Day weekend. The family-friendly August 31 concert will include John Williams’s Suite from Jaws, John Philip Sousa’s “Hands Across the Sea,” and Rivers of the Chesapeake: The Elizabeth, by area composer James Hosay. Concerts are also planned at Lake Matoaka Amphitheatre in Williamsburg (Sept. 1), Riverwalk Landing in Yorktown (Sept. 3), Chesapeake City Park in Chesapeake (Sept. 4), and Neptune’s Park 31st Street Stage in Virginia Beach (Sept. 8).
