New York’s Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will be featured on a September 9 Live From Lincoln Center broadcast on PBS entitled “Simple Gifts: The Chamber Music Society at Shaker Village.” The broadcast, a documentary with music filmed last May in a restored tobacco barn in Kentucky’s Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, will feature Copland’s Appalachian Spring ballet suite (which includes the Shaker melody “Simple Gifts”) as well as works by Samuel Barber, Louis Moreau Gottschalk, and Antonín Dvořák. The broadcast is the first Live From Lincoln Center episode filmed outside New York City and is directed by Habib Azar, with Elliot Caplan producing documentary segments. Remaining Live From Lincoln Center broadcasts during 2016-17 will feature the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, “Lang Lang’s New York Rhapsody,” “Joshua Bell’s Seasons of Cuba,” and the New York Philharmonic’s annual New Year’s Eve celebration.
