“The Chicago Sinfonietta prides itself on diversity of membership, guest artists and programming,” writes Graham Meyer in Wednesday’s (9/14) Crain’s Chicago Business. “In the orchestra’s season opener, the title seems to acknowledge venturing even further than usual: ‘Unhinged.’ Flashy piano duo Anderson & Roe and the wunderkind Clayton Stephenson will solo on core-repertoire piano-orchestral works by Stravinsky, Gershwin and the underrated 20th-century Frenchman Francis Poulenc, and Anderson & Roe will row against the classical current with arrangements of Michael Jackson’s ‘Billie Jean’ and Coldplay’s ‘Viva la Vida,’ the latter adding strings from the orchestra.” Music Director Mei-Ann Chen leads the season-opening concerts in Naperville’s Wentz Concert Hall on September 17, and Chicago’s Symphony Center on September 19.
