“The San Diego Symphony has hired Daniel Song as vice president of orchestra and building operations to fill the vacancy that will be left when Robert Wilkins retires in January after 13 years with the orchestra,” writes Michael James Rocha in Thursday’s (9/15) San Diego Union-Tribune. Song, who takes up duties with the orchestra in October, “has been vice president and general manager of the Aspen Music Festival and School for the past four years. Previously, he was concert manager for the Los Angeles Philharmonic. ‘Daniel has an incredible wealth of experience to build on, and comes to San Diego with energy, enthusiasm and a passion for ensuring that orchestral music is presented in the most vibrant and impactful way, and that the San Diego Symphony is a vital part of the entire San Diego region,’ said Martha Gilmer, the symphony’s chief executive officer. ‘Through his experience with the L.A. Phil, and the Aspen Music Festival, Daniel has worked with today’s most experienced musicians as well as young musicians who are looking to have a vibrant role in the future of orchestras. This is a valuable asset that Daniel will bring to our orchestra.’ ”
