As in prior years, the Allentown Symphony Orchestra in Pennsylvania is offering free tickets to classical and pops concerts for students in grades 1 to 12, and to college students up to age 21, with student I.D. Tickets are made possible by a grant from the Century Fund. The Allentown Symphony’s classical season opens on October 15 with saxophonist Branford Marsalis performing Villa-Lobos’s Fantasia for Saxophone and Orchestra on a program with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 and Villa-Lobos’s Sinfonietta No. 1 (A memoria de Mozart). The pops season opened on September 24 with “Lights, Camera, Oscars!” led by ASO associate conductor Ronald Demkee and featuring vocal soloists Marie Danvers and Destan Owens. Diane Wittry is in her twentieth year as artistic director of the Allentown Symphony Orchestra.
