The deadline is September 30 for female composers from eighth grade through college freshman to submit scores to apply for the Luna Composition Lab, a new initiative of Kaufman Music Center in New York City. The Composition Lab will provide teen composers with one-on-one mentorship and biweekly lessons with an established female composer; performance opportunities; high-quality recordings of their works; and networking with professional performers, composers, and other young female composers. The program was launched jointly by Kaufman’s Face the Music youth ensemble and composers Missy Mazzoli, Ellen Reid, Reena Esmail, and Kristin Kuster, with the goal of addressing the gender gap in the field of music composition. Composers who identify as female or gender non-conforming are eligible to apply by submitting scores to facethemusic@kaufmanmusiccenter.org. More information here.
