The Cincinnati May Festival has announced the appointment of JUANJO MENA to a three-year term as principal conductor, effective with the 2017-18 season. A native of Spain who has conducted widely in Europe and the U.S., Mena will serve as principal conductor concurrently with his post as chief conductor of the BBC Philharmonic in Manchester, England. The May Festival’s principal conductor post is part of a new artistic leadership model that also includes a director of choruses—currently Robert Porco, who has served in that capacity since 1989—and a rotating creative partner position, which has been filled by Gerard McBurney for the 2017 May Festival.
