“After a 10-month search, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra has named Peter T. Kjome as president and CEO, effective Feb. 1,” writes Tim Smith in Tuesday’s (12/6) Baltimore Sun. “Kjome is currently president and CEO of the Grand Rapids Symphony in Michigan, the orchestra where he once served as principal oboist. Kjome (pronounced cho-mee) succeeds Paul Meecham, who [stepped] down from the BSO post at the end of the 2015-2016 season … to take a similar position with the Utah Symphony | Utah Opera…. Kjome has headed the Grand Rapids Symphony administration since 2008…. Kjome will be taking the helm of an orchestra with an annual budget of about $25 million, compared with $9 million at the Grand Rapids Symphony…. In 2011, the League of American Orchestras recognized Kjome’s work with the Helen M. Thompson Award, given to orchestra managers or chief executives for outstanding leadership.” Says Kjome of the BSO, “I love the way the orchestra is serving its diverse community…. I’ve been thinking about what the BSO does onstage, but also off the stage, which is so important.” Says Music Director Marin Alsop, “I feel Peter is really up for the possibilities here.”
