On February 12, Louisiana’s Shreveport Symphony will perform a semi-staged version of Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale at Louisiana State University-Shreveport Auditorium. Shreveport Symphony Music Director Michael Butterman will lead the free concert, part of the orchestra’s Noel Foundation, Inc. chamber music series of free concerts. The presentation—also featuring members of Louisiana’s Company Repertory Theater—will include three speaking roles, three dancers, and a septet from the orchestra. In addition to performing public concerts, the Shreveport Symphony operates several music education programs, including programs in which musicians travel to classrooms, school assemblies, and other community venues, and a partnership connecting local elementary students with the SSO through daily music programs at nine schools.
