Principal musicians from orchestras around the U.S. will perform Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 (“Resurrection”) at Carnegie Hall on February 13, during Music for Life International’s annual benefit concert led by George Mathew. Performing at the “Mahler for Vision” concert will be musicians from the New York Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Buffalo Philharmonic, and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, among many others. New York-based MasterVoices will form the choir, joined by vocal soloists. Music for Life International is a New York-based nonprofit whose previous benefits have included Beethoven’s Ninth for South Asia (2006), Requiem for Darfur (2007), Mahler for the Children of AIDS (2009), Beethoven for the Indus Valley (2011), Shostakovich for the Children of Syria (2014), and The Scheherazade Initiative (2015), focusing on gender violence. Net proceeds from this year’s concert will go to HelpMeSee, which works to restore vision to people around the world with treatable cataract blindness.
