Apply for Nashville Symphony’s Composer Lab & Workshop

Posted on: February 15, 2017

The deadline is April 13 to apply for the Nashville Symphony’s second Composer Lab & Workshop, developed by Music Director Giancarlo Guerrero with composer and program director Aaron Jay Kernis. The Composer Lab & Workshop is aimed at developing young composers by giving them hands-on experience with a major American orchestra and showcasing their work for audiences. The initiative is open to U.S. residents between the ages of 18 and 33. Works will be adjudicated by a panel of composers and performers, and participants will be announced by June 23, 2017. The selected Composer Lab fellows will travel to Nashville in November for performances of their music by the Nashville Symphony in an open rehearsal. The fellows will also work with Nashville Symphony staff, conductors, principal players, and community partners; learn from music industry professionals; and will participate in one-on-one mentoring sessions with Kernis. The orchestra provides airfare, hotel accommodations, and a $1,000 stipend for all participants. Participating composers’ works may be selected for a performance during the Nashville Symphony’s 2018-19 season. One participating composer may also be chosen for a residency or fellowship at the Copland House outside New York City. Complete information is available at
