The Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra, a community orchestra based in Texas, will perform music by contemporary classical composers from Texas on a concert entitled “Texas, Our Texas” on February 19 at the Stafford Centre, just south of Houston. On the program will be Push by Rob Smith, a Moores School of Music faculty member at the University of Houston and director the university’s AURA contemporary-music ensemble; Rumba Transfigurada by Alejandro Basulto, a Moores School of Music student who serves as AURA’s assistant director; and John Grimmett’s A Letter from a Mother to Her Son for soprano and orchestra. Also performing at the concert will be winners of the Houston Music Teacher Association concerto competition, cellist Bethany Bobbs and pianist Daniel Cheng, and the FBSO concerto competition, cellist Nicholas Perkyns. Dominique Royem is the FBSO’s music director, and Britany Lovett is executive director.
