“The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is returning to Europe,” writes Elizabeth Bloom in Wednesday’s (2/15) Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “The PSO today announced the details of its summer festivals tour, scheduled for Aug. 25-Sept. 9. Led by music director Manfred Honeck, the orchestra will perform at the Rheingau Music Festival in Wiesbaden, Germany; the Salzburg Festival and Grafenegg Festival in Austria; an undetermined venue in London; the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland; and the George Enescu Festival in Bucharest, Romania. The orchestra will be performing at the Salzburg Festival for the first time since 2003. The symphony will be joined on tour by three guest artists: violinists Rainer Honeck (the conductor’s brother) and Anne-Sophie Mutter and baritone Matthias Goerne. The programs include music by Adams, Beethoven, Dvorák, Enescu, Lutoslawski, Mahler, Mozart, and Tchaikovsky. The orchestra last traveled to Europe in spring 2016.”
