The Seattle Symphony has announced the appointment of NATHAN CHAN as third chair cello. Chan begins his tenure the weekend of March 3. Chan is a proponent of using technology and media to invite audiences into classical music and has a growing internet presence; his videos have over 6 million views on YouTube. Chan has performed as a soloist with the San Francisco Symphony, the Royal Philharmonic, and the Albany Symphony, among others. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Columbia University and a Master of Music degree with Richard Aaron from the Juilliard School. In 2015, Chan was a chosen artist for Fondation Louis Vuitton’s Classe d’Excellence du Violoncelle with cellist Gautier Capuçon. Chan won the 2015 Aspen Low Strings Concerto Competition and was a recipient of the 2016 Samuel Mayes Memorial Cello Award at Tanglewood.
