“Keep the faith. Summer is on the way. So near, in fact, is the warm season, the Cleveland Orchestra already has announced its 2017 ‘Summers @ Severance’ season,” writes Zachary Lewis in Monday’s (2/27) Plain Dealer (Cleveland). “For those who don’t know or have had their memories wiped by winter, ‘Summers @ Severance’ is a series of three casual Cleveland Orchestra concerts featuring early start times and pre- and post-concert social events on the steps of Severance Hall. Most Cleveland Orchestra concerts during summer take place at Blossom Music Center, in Cuyahoga Falls…. Here are the program details: Friday, July 14: Music Director Franz Welser-Möst kicks off the series with an all-Beethoven program featuring Symphonies Nos. 1 and 5 and the ‘Egmont’ Overture. Friday, July 28: Conductor Susanna Malkki returns to lead a program pairing Schumann’s ‘Rhenish’ Symphony No. 3 with the Scriabin Piano Concerto, with pianist Bertrand Chamayou. Friday, Aug. 18: Conductor Patrick Dupre Quigley (director of the vocal ensemble Seraphic Fire, guests of the Cleveland Orchestra in March) returns to lead a performance of the Mozart Requiem, with the Blossom Festival Chorus.”
