The Sphinx Organization has announced two new staff members: JACQUELINE JOVE as director of education and STEPHANIE MATTHEWS as director of artist development. Based in Detroit, Sphinx is dedicated to the development of young Black and Latino classical musicians
As director of education, Jacqueline Jove will oversee the Sphinx Overture Program and the Sphinx Performance Academy. She has served on the violin faculties of the New York City-based Lucy Moses School, Turtle Bay Music School, and Chapin School, and at Interlochen Center for the Arts. She served as a lead teacher and faculty mentor for Harmony Program, an educational outreach program modeled on El Sistema, and helped develop the Harmony Program All Stars, a mentorship program with the New York Philharmonic. Jove has appeared as violin soloist for the German, Italian, and Israeli embassies, with the Interlochen Concert Orchestra, and on a twelve-concert solo tour in Brazil. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University and earned a Master of Music degree in violin performance at SUNY Purchase.
Violinist Stephanie Matthews has pursued a freelance career in Los Angeles and New York City. She is the founder of StringCandy, an entertainment company specializing in live performances, recordings, and original arrangements, and has contributed to various music, television, and film projects. Matthews has conducted numerous master classes and seminars for young musicians, both within the United States and abroad, serving as artist in residence at the City University of New York, Queensborough and at the University of Trinidad and Tobago, National Academy of the Performing Arts. She served as a violin faculty member and assistant dean at the Sphinx Performance Academy. Matthews is the first Sphinx alum to hold a leading administrative position with the organization.
