The 2016 documentary The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble will air Monday, March 6, on HBO. Directed by Morgan Neville (20 Feet from Stardom), the film looks back at Silk Road’s efforts to cross-pollinate culture and tradition through music. The film, which features Yo-Yo Ma, Syrian clarinetist Kinan Azmeh, Iranian kamancheh (Persian spiked fiddle) virtuoso Keyhan Kalhor, and Chinese pipa player Wu Man, examines the relationships that musicians from diverse cultures build through rehearsing and performing together. The Music of Strangers had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2015 and began screening at U.S. theaters in June 2016.
