“March is home to both Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day,” writes James Bennett II on Tuesday (3/8) at NYC classical station WQXR. “If you’re looking for some great sounds to celebrate the contributions women have made to society throughout human history, start with the music of these 18 composers.” Among the composers, of several nationalities and eras, are Amy Beach, Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, Jennifer Higdon, Ethel Smyth, Fanny Mendelssohn, Katharine Parker, Maddalena Sirmen, and Ellen Taaffe Zwilich. Sound clips of works by each of the composers are included.
