The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has launched an online archive of materials from the organization’s more than 120-year history. The archive—at archive.pittsburghsymphony.org and on the “About” page of pittsburghsymphony.org—includes a searchable database with “browse,” “discover,” and “search” functions. The browse function allows visitors to explore the Communities & Collections groups found with the archives, including “Grand Classics concert program books,” “Public Affairs Department (photographs)” and “Performance History,” among others. The discover function allows visitors to start with a broad subject and delve deeper from there. Results through any function can be further refined with advanced filters and sorting options. “This launch is only the beginning,” said President and CEO Melia Tourangeau. “We plan to add more media to this site.” Visitors also can listen to newly digitized audio highlights and view photographs, programs, and Pittsburgh Symphony posters.
