California’s Berkeley Symphony has announced the appointment of IAN HARWOOD as associate executive director. Harwood most recently served as vice president and chief operating officer at the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and was previously general manager and vice president of operations at Tucson Symphony Orchestra and executive assistant to the vice president of operations and special project coordinator at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He founded the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony in San Francisco, serving as its executive director while pursuing graduate studies in biophysics. Harwood is an alumnus of the League of American Orchestra’s Orchestra Management Fellowship Program. He earned bachelor’s degrees in music and biochemistry at the University of Rochester and Eastman School of Music, and holds a doctorate in biophysics from the University of California, San Francisco. He has played tuba with orchestras, bands, and other ensembles.
