The Cleveland Orchestra has appointed VINAY PARAMESWARAN assistant conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra and music director of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra. His two-year appointment begins with the 2017-18 season. Parameswaran will serve as cover conductor for subscription concerts, assist Music Director Franz Welser-Möst, and be involved with the orchestra’s education and community programs. He succeeds Associate Conductor Brett Mitchell, who completes his four-year term at the end of the 2016-17 season. Parameswaran goes to Cleveland following three seasons as associate conductor of the Nashville Symphony. This summer, he will be a Conducting Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center. He has guest conducted ensembles including the Rochester Philharmonic, Tucson Symphony, National Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony, Eugene Symphony, and Vermont Symphony Orchestra. A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Parameswaran played for six years in the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra. He holds a bachelor of arts in music and political science from Brown University, where he studied conducting with Paul Phillips, and studied at the Curtis Institute of Music with Otto-Werner Mueller.
