Music Director Rossen Milanov will lead the Princeton Symphony Orchestra’s 2017-18 season-opening concerts in September featuring Tchaikovsky’s Overture to 1812 and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, with the Westminster Symphonic Choir. Other works to be performed on the orchestra’s six classical series will be two co-commissions: in January, pianist Simone Dinnerstein will be soloist for Philip Glass’s Piano Concerto, on a program including J.S. Bach’s Piano Concerto in G minor, B.W.V. 1058, Mason Bates’s Auditorium, and Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin. In May, the PSO will perform a co-commissioned work by Saad Haddad, whose Manarah the PSO performed in January 2017. Also planned in 2017-18 are Mozart’s Symphony No. 29, Joan Tower’s Made in America, Joshua Roman’s Awakening, Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 9, Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 5 (“Reformation”), Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, and Erwin Schulhoff’s Concerto for String Quartet and Wind Orchestra, featuring PSO Concertmaster Basia Danilow and musicians of the LARK Quartet, of which Danilow is a member.
