Australia’s Sydney Symphony Orchestra has announced that RORY JEFFES will step down as managing director in July, when he will become CEO of Opera Australia. Jeffes has spent twelve years with the Sydney Symphony, including the last eight as managing director. Chief Conductor and Artistic Director David Robertson stated, “Rory is one of the finest arts administrators I have known, and I will miss working with him. Nevertheless, the Orchestra’s artistic vibrancy is deeply rooted and I’m confident will continue under a new chief executive.” Sydney Symphony Chairman Terrey Arcus said, “Rory’s move to lead Opera Australia represents an exciting new challenge for him…. For the SSO, it creates the opportunity to view things afresh through the leadership of a new chief executive.” The orchestra’s Board has begun a search in Australia and internationally for a new chief executive.
