On April 29, the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas will perform the world premiere of composer/guitarist David Leisner’s Pranayama, led by Music Director Paul Haas at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville. The work’s title refers to the Hindu practice of meditation through breathing. Also on program will be Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez with Leisner as guitarist and Schumann’s Symphony No. 1 (“Spring”). Leisner’s composition is the second world premiere for the orchestra this season; January 28’s concert featured Adam Schoenberg’s Slo-mo, on a program with music by Rachmaninoff, Kodály, and Ravel. Symphony of Northwest Arkansas performs six programs each season at the Walton Arts Center; the final concert of the 2016-17 season will be a “Music and Animation” pops program on June 3 presented in collaboration with Fayetteville-based company TheatreSquared.
