This June, New York’s Orchestra of St. Luke’s is launching an annual multidisciplinary chamber music festival that will focus on a different composer each year. The 2017 festival is called “Facets of Schubert” and will take place at the Morgan Library and Museum and the Brooklyn Museum from June 7 to 25. Among the festival’s participants will be New Yorker writer and Schubert fan Adam Gopnik reading his narrative about the intersection of music and life, which was commissioned by the orchestra. The first of three programs will feature the Trout Quintet and songs with St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble, pianist Henry Kramer, and soprano Ying Fang, plus a talk by composer and electric guitarist Steven Mackey. Also planned are the Cello Quintet and unfinished fragments and movements from several chamber works, with commentary by two of the Morgan Library’s curators and by James Roe, Orchestra of St. Luke’s president and executive director, in a pre-concert conversation on the theme of unfinished artistic works.
