STILIAN KIROV has been appointed music director of the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra in Park Forest, effective June 1, 2017. He currently serves as music director of New Jersey’s Symphony in C and the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra in California. Previously he was associate conductor of the Seattle Symphony and Memphis Symphony, music director of the Memphis Youth Symphony Program, and assistant conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He holds received a 2016 Solti Foundation U.S. Career Assistance Award and is a 2015 Malko Competition prize winner. Born in Bulgaria, Kirov holds a bachelor’s degree from the Juilliard School and a master’s degree from Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris.
