The Solti Foundation U.S. has announced that Christopher Allen has been chosen as the 2017 recipient of its Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award. Given annually to a promising American conductor 38 years of age or younger, and also known as the Solti Fellow, the award includes a grant of $30,000, an increase from the award in previous years of $25,000. Allen will receive professional mentoring and introductions to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Allen is currently resident conductor at Cincinnati Opera, and has also conducted the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Washington National Opera, Florida Grand Opera, and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. He is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music. The Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award is one of several annual awards to young American conductors given by the Solti Foundation U.S.
