The Symphony Orchestra of the Minnesota Youth Symphonies has announced that it will visit four cities in Cuba on a June 24-July 1 tour. Led by Co-Artistic Director Manny Laureano, the St. Paul-based ensemble will give concerts and participate in cultural exchanges and workshops with professional and student Cuban musicians in the cities of Cienfuegos, Trinidad, Santa Clara, and Havana. Laureano participated in the Minnesota Orchestra’s 2015 visit to Cuba as that orchestra’s principal trumpet. He also serves as music director of the Bloomington (Minnesota) Symphony Orchestra. Cuban pianist Nachito Herrera will collaborate with the Minnesota youth orchestra as guest soloist. The tour is arranged by Classical Movements, which has a special agreement with the Cuban Institute of Music to bring American ensembles to Cuba. Minnesota Youth Orchestras, established in 1972, provides orchestral training for your musicians in grades three through twelve through a variety of performance and music-education programs.
