The Richmond Symphony has been awarded a one-to-one $500,000 challenge grant from the Virginia-based Cabell Foundation. To receive the award, the orchestra must raise $500,000 in new or increased support from the Richmond community over the next twelve months. Funds raised will go to the Richmond Symphony Foundation, increasing the Cabell Fund for Artistic Excellence to $1,000,000, an endowed fund that provides support to recruit and retain professional musicians and administrative talent. The challenge match is also meant to help the orchestra fund projects in and around its 60th anniversary season in 2017-18, and for initiatives and programs associated with the orchestra’s 2020 Strategic Plan.
