The Solti Foundation U.S. has announced the nine recipients of the 2017 Solti Foundation Career Assistance Awards. The conductors receiving the grants are: Conner Gray Covington, assistant conductor, Utah Symphony Orchestra; Roderick Cox, assistant conductor, Minnesota Orchestra; Aram Demirjian, music director, Knoxville Symphony Orchestra (TN); Yaniv Dinur, music director, New Bedford Symphony Orchestra (MA), and assistant conductor, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra (WI); Roger Kalia, co-founder and music director, Lake George Music Festival (NY), and assistant conductor, Pacific Symphony, and music director of Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra (CA); Stilian Kirov, music director of the Illinois Philharmonic, the Bakersfield Symphony (CA), and Symphony in C (Philadelphia and NJ); Lee Mills, resident conductor, Orquestra Sinfonica Brasileira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil); Gemma New, resident conductor, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and music director, Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra (Canada); and Sameer Patel, associate conductor, San Diego Symphony Orchestra, and associate conductor, Sun Valley Summer Symphony. Many of these conductors participated in the League of American Orchestras’ Bruno Walter National Conductor Preview. The awards were announced by Penny Van Horn, board chair of the Solti Foundation U.S., and Elizabeth Buccheri, artistic and awards committee chair.
