“The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra announced its 2017-18 Masterworks season Thursday,” writes Rick Hutzell in Thursday’s (6/1) Capital Gazette (Annapolis, MD). Highlights of Novo’s tenure include appearances at the Music Center at Strathmore, the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, a national broadcast on NPR’s ‘Performance Today’ and the ASO’s first commercial CD…. The season will launch with Israeli violinist Vadim Gluzman … performing Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 2. The Opening Night Celebration, a two-part gala reception, will include food and an open bar at the prelude party at 5:30 p.m., followed by an event after the performance featuring the Eastport Oyster Boys…. Other musicians featured in the coming season include the orchestra’s principal trumpet Christopher Sala … classical guitarist Manuel Barrueco … and cellist Julian Schwarz, who will premiere a new work co-commissioned by the Annapolis Symphony. The season will also include a return performance by pianist Jon Nakamatsu, Gold Medalist at the Tenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.” Also planned are a September pops concert at Quiet Waters Park, a holiday pops concert in December; and family and school concerts in May.
