Symphony Tacoma in Washington State will perform a free outdoor concert on Tacoma’s waterfront on June 17 at Thea’s Park on the Thea Foss Waterway during the Festival of Sail taking place from June 15 through 18. Music Director Sarah Ioannides will lead the 2 p.m. program of popular and nostalgic music from films, American history, and the nautical world. Music will include Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, music from Titanic, Rodgers and Bennett’s Victory at Sea, and Glière’s Russian Sailors’ Dance. The Festival of Sail will center focus on Tacoma’s maritime past and present, with activities including a grand Parade of Sail, mock battles, ship tours and historical talks, day sails, youth programs, and food and drink.
