The Omaha Symphony has named ENRICO LOPEZ-YAÑEZ assistant conductor, through the 2018-19 season. Lopez-Yañez previously held the title of conducting fellow at the orchestra. Lopez-Yañez will lead education and community engagement concerts as well as select public concerts, and will develop new concerts for Mission Imagination, Celebrate Creativity, and other education and community programs. Lopez-Yañez will continue to serve as a cover conductor for Music Director Thomas Wilkins, Principal Pops Conductor Ernest Richardson, and guest conductors. Lopez-Yañez earned a masters of music in orchestral conducting at the University of Maryland. In the summer of 2016, he was assistant conductor to Christoph Eschenbach at Carnegie Hall’s National Youth Orchestra of the USA, and served as assistant conductor to Valery Gergiev during his European tour with that orchestra. He was assistant conductor and chorusmaster for the Berkshire Opera Festival, and his international appearances include the Orquesta Filarmónica de Zacatecas (Mexico), the Orchestra Sinfónica de Aguascalientes (Mexico), the Prague Summer Night’s Orchestra (Czech Republic), and the 2011 Festival de Musica in Londrina, Brazil.
